Oh my goodness, this has to be my most favorite work day ever!? Two of my super-amazing Authors hit #1 bestseller rankings on Amazon in the same day. I’m so excited for these inspiring women… both killer writers who wrote two incredible and totally unique novels, and I was lucky enough to be hired as a co-editor on both of their books. STOKED!
Megan Crewe just launched her novel today… it already did amazing in pre-sales and ARC reviews, and launch-day catapulted it so that right now it’s the #1 bestseller in Asian mythology fantasy, and it’s breathing down the neck of a bunch of other categories too. I can’t stop hitting refresh. 😛
Megan already has a brilliant publishing career with a stack of novels under her belt, but A Mortal Song is her first self-published title, and it’s gorgeous (inside and out). It’s about a young girl named Sora who must face her own humanity. The story’s set in Japan with the most eclectic and intriguing cast of characters you’ll ever meet. You know exactly what to do here, right? Buy yourself a copy, curl up, and READ!
“Megan Crewe’s A Mortal Song is engrossing from the first chapter. The world of the kami is beautifully fantastic and delicately drawn, and the switched-at-birth scenario made me instantly feel for both of these resilient, brave girls. A Mortal Song has lots of magic, lots of heart, and lots to love.” — Kendare Blake, author of Three Dark Crowns
“Sora is multi-faceted, endearing, intelligent and a pleasure to read… We’ve all read the classic rags to riches story, but in A Mortal Song, Megan Crewe delivers the opposite, and the result is gripping. Nothing about this book is typical; not the characters, nor the world. Young adult readers are in for a treat.” — Kelly St. Clare, YABooksCentral
And by the way, if you too love Japanese fiction and anime, enter this freakin’ cool contest Megan is running with a Japan-themed prize pack that I would literally (figuratively) kill for.
It includes two books, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit by Nahoko Uehashi and Death Note Vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba (I love Death Note!!), the complete DVD collections of Princess Tutu and Cowboy Bebop (another love), plus Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Mononoke, Battle Royale and Hana and Alice, and a 3-month Japanese snack box subscription to WOWBOX. I think this is pretty much the best prize pack in the history of book launches? The competition runs until December 10th, so please enter, win, and tell me all about how much joy you get from this.

My other super-amazing author who also just supernova’d (AGAIN) last night is Alys Arden, who took #1 bestseller rankings in YA fantasy vampire fiction. You know her novel because I talk about it all the time and adore the mysterious magical world she created around the Casquette Girls. This novel has so much: a protagonist who you’ll totally fall in love with, beautiful vampires, asshole vampires, witches, voodoo magic, a mysterious Count, creepy attics… all set in post-hurricane New Orleans with its damaged empty homes and slowly rebuilding community.
Also, I’m currently working with her on edits to the sequel and holy shit it’s so good… Ahhh, if only I could spill the secrets I know!!
But I won’t. You’ll have to wait.
“The Casquette Girls is a delicious Southern Gothic vampire story that will make you want to catch the next flight to New Orleans.” —Forever Young Adult
“A slow-burning novel in the tradition of Anne Rice.” —Rue Morgue Magazine
“A smart story with a surprising amount of emotional depth…in the grand tradition of Buffy and The Lost Boys.” —IndieReader
“It’s as if Arden took her life experiences within the Vieux Carre, assembled a few Hogwarts students as Avengers, channeled Magneto into Wednesday Adams, drenched the process in Parisian detail, and penned the great American novel.” —Examiner.com
Congratulations, you most clever, imaginative, hard-working ladies! So lucky I get to work with you both and get to enjoy both of your successes all in one day! LUCKIEST EDITOR EVAH! ♥♥♥
